What's On Your Nightstand--November

Books on my nightstand:

The Woman's Study Bible (NKJV)
Footprints For Women
God Is In Control by Charles Stanley
When Heaven Is Silent by ron Dunn
When God Doesn't Answer Your Prayer by Jerry Sittser
Just Jane by Nancy Moser
Wounded Healer by Donna Fleisher

I kid you not. :)

So, my Bible is usually by my bed whether I'm reading it or not. I bought this current one since Steve died and decided that, when it arrived (from America), I would pick it up and start reading. I did--very spasmodically. I think pretty much only Job has been looked at.

Footprints For Women was given to me by what my church calls "heart sisters". It's somebody who is praying for me and thinking about me whose identity is currently unknown to me. It's a beautiful little gift book that I put in the pile the other day with the intention to start looking at.

God Is In Control was sent to me by a friend's aunt. She heard about me; doesn't know me from Adam but wanted to send me some books to encourage me--all the way from America! I just re-discovered this one the other night and also put it in the pile with the intention to start flipping through.

When Heaven Is Silent is an "authentic classic" that I picked up recently for a whopping $4.95! I read the entire book yesterday and it is a really good read! The author is a pastor who lost his teenage son to suicide as a result of manic depression/bi-polar. When I bought it, I thought this was an old book but it's actually only written in the 90s. The author delves into Jacob, Job and King David. It's not a difficult read and well worth reading and re-reading!

When God Doesn't Answer Your Prayer is by the author of A Grace Disguised, both of which were recommended to me by an elder at our church who is also part of our house church group. I had got a small way through the book some months ago and dug it up the other night to consider re-starting (and finishing) in the coming days!

Just Jane is being very slowly read. It's not a bad book and quite like a Jane Austen read but is a little dry for me at the moment. I'm preferring to read something with faith-related content.

Wounded Healer is my next about-to-be-read Christian fiction book. My sister won the set of four from somewhere and they are all autographed by the author! :) I have wanted to read this book for ages and am looking forward to getting stuck into it...today?
